I watched more Elfen Lied tonight. It’s starting to get really good. Only three more episodes to go.
When I first started watching the series, the nudity in it seemed gratuitous. But it’s more than just physical nudity. It’s about emotional nudity. Being naked means having nothing to hide. It’s about the need to connect to people, the need to feel included. The human condition.
Some anime touches me more than others because of my personality. The ability to tell a story that has a profound meaning underneath is art. Art expresses ideas that cannot be expressed in words, and that inspires me. Awes me.
Sleep.

Wednesday night was ultimate frisbee night, and we won both games! I felt like I played pretty well, making a couple of defensive stops and scoring a goal. My coach is one of those really good athlete guys that will only be your friend if you’re also a really good athlete. He’s sort of encouraging and all that, but you can tell that he just treats people differently who are really good. He and the main handler on our team used to play for the Vanderbilt club team, and they do things like call over and over for the disc even if you’re in a position to make a pass because they don’t want you to screw it up. They do that sort of thing subtly, but they still do it. It’s not bad enough to really get to me, although I think it hurts the team. We’re not close-knit by any stretch of the imagination.
During ultimate, my mom called me to say that my grandfather (on my dad’s side) had passed away. I didn’t really know him very well, so it wasn’t that upsetting, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t affect me. The funeral’s tomorrow. I didn’t want to go unless it was important to my dad for me to be there, and I called him this morning. He said it was alright if I didn’t come. Even so, I’ll be thinking about everyone tomorrow.
After ultimate we went to Hooters to get some all-you-can-eat-wings action. Probably a bad idea. It was fun hanging out with folks, but my digestive system is still not all that happy. I ended up calling in sick yesterday, but I could have worked. To be honest I just needed/wanted a day off.
Tonight after work we’re going to see Egypt at the Frist. I’ve never been to the Frist before, so it should be fun. Then tomorrow much anime will be seen as we’re trying to finish off Samurai Champloo before Stuffy has to go home and have knee surgery.
Now I have to go get ready for work.
