Monday night was the first time since I’ve moved out on my own that I’ve felt noticeably lonely. And I actually did something about it! I asked Stuffy if I could come over, and I hung out with James, Stuffy, Natalie, and Catherine. I felt better after that.
This week I’ve had a hard time getting back into the flow of work. I did manage to get a git repository set up for all of my dotfiles, but that’s pretty much the most productive thing I’ve done. I’ve been kicking around coupler a little but haven’t really gotten a significant amount of work done there.
I jumped a curb on my bike the other day, and now the back wheel is wobby as hell. So either I bent the wheel frame, or it needs truing. Guess that’ll be my project for this weekend. I also need to get more work clothes pretty badly.
Back to putzing around at work.

Today has been good. I went to Staples to get a chair mat and velcro for my DDR pad so I can play on the carpet without it sliding around. Then I played DDR for 2 or 3 hours, hehe.
I also biked around the neighborhood to look for a little square pocket mirror in the stores here, but I came up short. I might have to order one from somewhere, but I’m gonna try to ask around for one before I do that. I need it to make a perisight.
I also managed to watch Return of the Jedi and read a few chapters of Goblet of Fire.
I may be a geek, but I have fun being one.

I spent yesterday breaking down and hauling stuff to storage and Matt’s place. All of my essentials are now at Matt’s, and I’ll be settling in during the next couple of days.
Before I took my last load from the house last night, I had to wait for some clothes to dry. So on a whim, I got on my bike to ride around, and I ended up at the golf course nearby the house. I rode the golf cart paths all throughout the course; it was great. The fireflies were out; the sprinklers were on; and there was no one around but me. I haven’t really communed with nature for a while, so it was good to do so again. I know a golf course isn’t exactly “nature” per say, but it’s the closest thing to it there is inside the city. Bike riding through a golf course at night is now one of my favorite things to do.

Last night Catherine and Natalie came over to hang out with Nate and Matt. I hung out with them for once, too. It was a blast; I’m glad I stuck around. We played Cranium and spoons and Egyptian ratscrew. Most fun I’ve had in a while. After they left, Nate, Matt and I played DDR past midnight.
Before that, it was rainy and cold when I got off work. I had ridden my bike in with no jacket, so I called Matt to ask him to pick me up, which he did, thankfully. I left my bike overnight.
Just before that, I was talking to one of my co-workers about ping pong. He’s from China, and he was telling me about his relative who recently moved to the states. He’s taking English here at Vanderbilt. Oh yeah… and he’s a former ping pong world champion. Holy crap. And I’m going to watch him play on Tuesday, and maybe even hit around with him. I’m so pumped. It turns out that several people in our department play ping pong, so I might start playing them regularly. It’ll be good to play regularly again. I haven’t done that since I graduated.
I’m feeling a little nostalgic and thoughtful this morning. It’s a wonderful 45 degrees out. I’m a little groggy, as I had to get up earlier than normal to hitch a ride to work with Matt and Nate.
Work is pants.
EDIT: Ultimate tomorrow morning. Go Deep Six!

Today I rode my bike to work through the 55 degree air. It was fantastic.
I went live with an alpha version of my web application for work. I don’t even think you can call it alpha. There is still a long way to go until I’d release it. But it seems to be working well, and it’s much, much faster when it’s in production mode. That makes me happy. The chair of the department seems to like it, which is a good sign.
My sister told me today that the plant where her husband (my brother-in-law) works exploded yesterday. Here’s the story. Crazy.
Fall ultimate starts tomorrow morning!! Wooo! Ultimate in the awesome autumn weather! Excellent.
