one more week
May 11th, 2008

The past couple of weeks have been mostly fun. I’ve been playing a good amount of Mario Kart Wii, which is amazing. I also had my yearly work evaluations, and I’m getting promoted! So that’s exciting.

Earlier this week the landlord left a not-so-nice note on our door about how we needed to clean up so he could show the apartment. He called the apartment “a nightmare”, among other things. It was sort of offensive, but I mean, it was a bit messy. So we cleaned up that night frantically, then found out he wouldn’t be showing it for another 5 days because he was so busy. So that was some douche-baggery we had to deal with. For the most part our landlord has been pretty helpful, though, so I’m not really that upset about it anymore.

At least I can start moving out in a week. Hooray!

Sometimes I feel like I hang out with certain people too much. I try to back off sometimes when I get the feeling that they’ve had enough of me. I don’t want to be too clingy or wear out my welcome. Sometimes when I get to see friends that I haven’t seen in a while, I try to cram in as much as possible into the time I have with them. I think the result of that is times that are a bit too stressful than necessary.

I feel like I have to compete with certain people for social space. I want to be understood, and so I want to have my share of time with someone so that we can understand each other. That also makes me a bit more pushy than I’d normally be, at least when certain people are around.

Catherine and I started work on Cowboy’s website. It’ll be a new experience working with a real graphic designer for a change. I’m looking forward to it. :)

smoking
February 2nd, 2008

I like the ritual of smoking a clove at night. It’s partly because it’s relaxing and partly because I have to go outside to do it. I like the cold.

The “Check Mii Out” channel on the Wii is one of the best things ever.

I got FFXI in the mail yesterday, and I created my first character. His name is Tiddlewinks. Best… name… evar!

I finished Xenocide yesterday, and now I’m on Children of the Mind. Crap tons of dialogue in Xenocide, much more than any other book I’ve read, at least in recent memory.

2007 wtf!

Matt and I went to Stuffy’s for new year’s, as he’s back from the fatherland after a semester. We played Wii and DDR and ate food and such. We counted down the new year in Spanish, as the only ball drop we could find on TV at midnight CST was in Mexico. It was a good time.

I get Final Fantasy XI in the mail either today or tomorrow, so I’m excited about that. I expect I’ll get bored of it after a month or two, but at least I didn’t have to pay for it. I used a gift certificate that I got from work, hooray!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I’m almost done with Xenocide, the third book in the Ender’s Game series.

holding down the fort

I came into work today, and I’m the only IT guy here. It’s nice and quiet.

My uncle gave me a rack-mounted server over the holidays (!), and hopefully I’ll be able to get it colocated somewhere around here for cheap-ish. I haven’t tested the server yet, but I really hope it works out.

I ended up having fun last night with the Plucketts. We played Smash; I hadn’t played in like 6 months. We also played some DDR. There’s nothing like seeing huge defensive line players getting A’s and B’s on heavy.

I updated Typo finally, and it looks like all the nice little GUI features that were broken are now fixed again. That makes me happy.
