Tuesday was my birthday. It was a pretty good one. I did a lot of my favorite things: took a half day from work, threw frisbee in the park, ate chinese with friends, watched anime, and played ultimate frisbee pickup. It was good.
My sister gave me some iTunes credit, and I spent it this morning. I got some Autechre, which was way overdue. Also, iTunes finally got Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works, which I pretty much had to get, since I lost my CD long ago (if I ever had one, I can’t remember). To balance all the techno, I tried something new and got Sylvie Lewis’s latest album, Translations. It’s good so far. She’s a bit Ditty Bops-ish, which is of course how I found out about her. More jazzy, though.
I also discovered that iTunes started adding tax to album sales. That made me a bit sad.
I finally caught up on a bit of queued work yesterday. It’s good to not have a bunch of things begging for my attention for a change.

If I have several tasks on my todo list at work, I almost always go for the most fun of those tasks, regardless of the priority. Today, I have three major tasks on my plate:
- Work on a .NET application
- Work on a Microsoft Access project
- Work on a Ruby on Rails project
Gee… which one will I choose? Gawd. And the winner is…. ! /=|_|[|< |\/|1[|20$0/=7.
Sometimes when all of my appointed tasks are stupid (AKA Windows-related), I invent new projects to work on so I don’t have to do them. Yesterday, that project was the fridge app. I added a “Randomize” feature that will erase all word magnets and replace them with words from whatever categories you choose.

So far my vacation has been productive. I got my MythTV system up and running, and I’m very impressed with the software. High kudos to the folks who wrote that program. It works great.
Last night I spilled beer on my laptop. It wasn’t much beer, but it was liquid. I shut off everything immediately and started cleaning it out. I stuck it under a lamp for a while, then left it overnight next to my fan. This morning, using iFixit for a guide, I proceeded to take it apart and make sure things were dried out. I put it back together and hit the power button. All is well. So I got to see the guts of my Macbook, and no harm done, at least as far as I can tell. Maybe the beer made it better.
So this week I’m having some quality me time. Or, trying to. I checked my e-mail this afternoon to find out that I apparently caused a big problem at work. I modified an e-mail notification script, but I introduced a bug into it I guess. This morning 60,000 e-mails were queued up on the server. ITS shut it off. They sorted it out, but I felt bad about causing that.
Anyway, I’m gonna try to not think about work the rest of the week.

Today was a little better. I got some work done on a project I’ve been working on for a couple months now. Got in the zone a bit. It’s always good to feel productive and to put your hands to something you care about.
I went to ultimate tonight. It wasn’t half bad. I didn’t really get yelled at, and I managed to make a few good plays. I don’t like having to “prove myself”, but at least I felt good about my play. Still no new friends made. Everyone on my team seems to already have their cliques formed with people here and there and aren’t too keen on making new friends. Only one or two seem genuinely friendly. Tweaked my ankle a bit I think. The cleats I have aren’t too ankle-friendly.
I found my iPod shuffle, which I had figured got lost during the move. So that’s a plus.
There’s still a lot of turmoil going on inside me. I just have to try to understand it. I had a hard time sleeping last night.

I’m feeling a little stressed today. I’ve been pushing to get this project done that I’ve been working on for too long. I’m only supposed to work on it for 10 hours a week, but at this point I’m so tired of it that I don’t care. I just want it to be over.
I might skip ultimate tomorrow night. I just don’t know if I want to deal with it.
Le sigh.
